The Holy Quran

The Holy Quran is the central scripture of Islam, revealed to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) in Arabic.

Structure and Numbers

• Total number of Surahs: 114.
• Total number of Ayats (verses): 6236 (note: some books state this as 6666).
• Total number of Parahs (sections): thirty (30).
• Total number of Manazil: seven (7).
• Total number of Ayat-e-Sajdah (verses of prostration): 14.
• Total number of Rukus in the Holy Quran: 558.
• Total number of words in the Holy Quran: 86,430.
• Total number of alphabets (letters) in the Holy Quran: 323,671, of which the alphabet 'Meem' occurs 26,535 times — the most frequently used letter is Alif.
• The Bismillah Sharif itself contains nineteen (19) alphabets.
• Makki Surahs number 86; Madni Surahs number 28.
• The longest Surah is Al-Baqrah; the smallest Surah is Al-Kausar; the last Surah is Al-Nas.
• Surah Al-Tauba is the only Surah that does not begin with Bismillah.

Revelation

• The Quran was revealed in the month of Ramazan, on the night of Laila-tul-Qadar.
• It was revealed to Hazrat Muhammad (ﷺ), the Khatam-un-Nabiyeen (Seal of the Prophets).
• The names of 26 Prophets are mentioned in the Holy Quran.
• The greatest miracle of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) is the Holy Quran itself.
